Some news, no pics

Well I thought they were going kind of slow, but found out yesterday our foreman says the house will be done in 30 days. This is about 4 weeks earlier than we anticipated... so stress levels went up. We still need to sell our mobile home or we will have to work a double mortgage. Plus we have to remove the mobile home from the premises before we can move into the new house. Worst case scenario is we would have to pay to have it moved away, and continue the mortgage. We don't have the money for either of these so yeah... stress!

In the house, the drywall is done and they are doing woodwork right now- baseboards, window frames, doors, closet shelves, etc. I expect they will pour it on today, then not so much tomorrow. We are expecting the torrential monsoon storms to return tonight around midnight and last through tomorrow. They don't come out when it is pouring rain. Because, it is a holy mud-hell.

I forgot my camera cord. so I will post some pictures tomorrow.

sheetrock (no pics this post)

forgot my camera cord. I think it is still packed.

They got the sheet rock up over the weekend, while we were out of town. So now I can see the rooms as individual spaces more, and the house as a whole, a little less. But that's great.

One subcontractor is there to do all of the trim (sheet rock trim); he slept over in the house last night, having brought a bedroll. It was kind of weird, but also OK with me. But I didn't get to go out there to inspect the day's progress. Oh well.

Tomorrow I'll put up the few pics I have of the sheetrock. We took some pictures when we got back from Port Arther, before the sun went down. The guy who slept over arrived barely after sunrise the next day.

That is all.

no news...

Nothing has been done on the house since last Thursday... I'm guessing it's the rain. Total mudpit.

Joe wired some extra phone and cable lines into the house himself over the weekend.

That's about it.

My Roof Has Shingles

Remember, click the image to enlarge.

They put shingles on my roof yesterday.

This plant- this plant was abused and mistreated for the first 6 months of its life. But look at it now! This is for me to remember.

We have color!

These pictures are dated wrong. I have to set the date/time every time I change batteries. I change the batteries a lot- it is an old camera. One day I will get a next-generation digital camera. Until then, sometimes I will forget to set the time...

All of these pictures were taken October 6.

My pretty blue house

red door!

the color name is Lupine (Sherwin Williams)

they're saving up the construction debris to dump all at once at the end

Now, that's some color!

Then, I went to ACL

We interrupt this house building blog with a news flash: Austin City Limits Music Festival

I deeply, deeply regret not getting any lawn shots. My bad. You will see why I'm so regretful soon.

Friday October 2

First I saw The Sound & The Jury winner, The Bright Lights Social Hour. They were great!

Then I saw Low Anthem, which if you read my facebook you know I described as 'deconstructed Americana with a fat dirty groove'. They were very unique and very awesome!

Then, since it was very sunny, and was getting very pink because security had confiscated my sunscreen (metal can), I decided to duck into the Wildflower stage, which is covered. I missed Sara Watkins, but what I saw instead was nice... I mean, niiiice. The sound in the wildflower tent wasn't that great. But I still loved it! I saw 4 bands in the tent.

Then, Walter 'Wolfman' Washington came on this stage (no vid). He was smooooth...

After that, I saw some of Daniel Johnston's set. He was... freaky!

And I caught one song of Phoenix, French rock and rollers

Then I tripped on over to see Raphael Sadiiq. Swoon... I stayed for his whole show baby!

Raphael Sadiiq

After that I met up with Jen and saw all of John Legend's show (swoon, too)

It was a full moon. Or close to it.

Then I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They were pretty freaky too, but in a good way (no pics).

Jen likes 'em

Saturday.. Saturday was rain day. Sigh. It was pretty much a waste of time, but we had fun anyway. Sort of.

The Mud Series: Thus begins the ruination of the lawn.

Rain, Rain

Isn't this great?

We heard -couldn't see- someone called Eek Mouse (or something). Then, during a break in the rain, we decamped and went over to the XBox stage to see STS9 (Sound Track System 9), which I was really looking forward to. Unfortunately, the skies opened up with a fury again, so we left. We were tired of being wet!

So long, ACL 09

Sunday- we all had premonitions of the final destruction. So we stayed home. After what I saw on TV, I believe the right choice was made.

10-01-09

These pictures are all misdated. They were taken 10/01/09. I have fixed the setting now. Carry on.

see how the dirt, that used to be mud, creeped up the sides of the house

my crab apples are almost ready! I'm going to make gelato with them.

You know I'm only posting probably 5% of the pictures I'm taking, right? I'm taking a million pictures, for the record, how our house was built, what materials, in case repairs are needed, etc. You would be really, really bored if I posted them all.

You're welcome.

paint

We found out from our foreman yesterday they are going to paint the outside pretty soon. we thought that was odd, since really the outside is the only thing that's been completed (except for the paint). He told us that the warranty on the outside paneling is void if it's not painted w/in 30 days.

It seems like, to me, that the scheduling of the crews and tasks is not very smooth. Like how they poured the foundation on a day when it poured, poured, poured down rain. They should've just waited until Monday then there would not have been so much mud!

Also:

I am not sure that Joe really understands the color that I chose for the outside. I am waiting for his reaction. I'm waiting for the oh Rachael, you did NOT choose that color did you???!!!

On the other hand I cannot wait to see my pretty pretty Lupine house with Carmine door (Sherwin Williams).

That's all I got.
